Quran-Islam - True Islam

 

The reader of the Quran will note that God often gives us key words inside various verses that assert the true meaning of these verses. In 2:197 we read the Arabic words 'farada feehinna'. Here we have two Arabic words of great significance:

1- The first word is 'farada'. This verb is from the word ‘fard’ which means a command or duty set by God on the believers. Thus the Salat is a ‘fard’ so is Zakat and Hajj. Thus the verb 'farada' means to actually execute or consummate the command.

2- The second word is 'feehinna'. This word is in fact two Arabic words joined together. They are ‘fee’ which means (in), and ‘hinna’ which means (them) and is used in the feminine gender. Thus the whole word means (in them). The word (them) here refers to the specified months. Now by placing these words inside the verse we get:

"Whoever shall execute the Hajj in them (the specified months) shall refrain from ……."

In these words 'execute the Hajj in them' God endorses the legality of executing Hajj anytime within the specified months.

Those who have corrupted the law of God and reduced the time of Hajj to the first ten days of the 12^th month, have justified their claims by corrupting the meaning of some Quranic verses such as:

"They shall commemorate God’s name during the specified days" 22:28

"You shall commemorate God for a number of days" 2:203

They claim that the words 'specified days' and 'a number of days' indicate that Hajj can only be observed in the ten day period and not anytime during the four months.

The reply to that is double folded:

FIRST

Immediately Almighty God has given us a clear distinction in the verses that speak about Hajj. When God addresses Hajj itself, the words 'specified months' are used as in 2:197, or the words 'sacred months' are used as in 9:36. The reason for that being that the duration of Hajj is the full four months. However when God addresses the believers, the words 'a number of days' are used, as in :

'You shall commemorate God for a number of days'. The words 'You shall' which addresses the believers speak of 'a number of days' for the simple fact that any believer who goes to do his Hajj goes for a number of days, he does not stay for the whole four months.

SECOND

Consider the example of the fasting of Ramadan as in the following verses:

"Ramadan is the month during which the Quran was revealed, providing guidance for the people, clear teachings and the statute book. Those of you who witness the month shall fast therein" 2:185

Here we read 'the month' as being the duration of fasting.

Now consider the following verse:

"Specific days (for fasting); if one is ill or travelling an equal number of other days may be substituted" 2:184

Here fasting is spoken of as 'specified days'. However, no one came up and said that we should only fast for the first ten days of Ramadan!

The explanation to all that lies in the fact that a month or months can also be spoken of as days, simply because they are made of days. The fact that they are spoken of as days does not change the fact that they are still months. This is similar to someone describing the years of his childhood by saying ‘they were the best days of my life’.

And for the Muslims the sincerity that is due to the Book of Allah includes doing the quran recitation, listening to quran along with learning the tajweed rules and reciting it beautifully, letting our kids learn quran learning holy quran tafseer and the reasons for its revelation, affirming that it is the Truth, the perfect Speech of Allah and not part of the creation, honoring it and defending it, abiding by the orders and prohibitions found in it and teaching quran to spread the word or truth and calling to it. So by learning quran education online and reflecting over the Quran online, one fulfills an obligation and is rewarded for that. Upon fulfilling this obligation, the Quran then becomes a proof for him on the Day of Judgment! And that is our second benefit we will take by embracing this Noble Book...

Solar/Lunar Eclipses in Islam

 

Muslims recognize that everything in the heavens and on earth is created and sustained by the Lord of the universe, Allah Almighty. Throughout the Qur'an, people are encouraged to look around them, observe and reflect on the beauties and wonders of the natural world - as signs of Allah's majesty.

"Allah is He, who created the sun, the moon, and the stars -- (all) governed by laws under His commandment." Qur'an 7:54

"It is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon. All (the celestial bodies) swim along, each in its orbit." Qur'an 21:33

 

"The sun and the moon follow courses exactly computed." Qur'an 55:05

In remembrance and gratefulness for all of His favors, Muslims all over the world bow down in prayer five times each day. At a time of a solar or lunar eclipse, there is a recommended prayer (salatul-kusuf) that is performed by the Muslim community in congregation.

 

The Prophet's Tradition (peace be upon him)

During the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), there was a solar eclipse on the day that his son Ibrahim died. Some superstitious people said that the sun eclipsed because of the young child's death and the Prophet's sadness on that day. The Prophet corrected their understanding:

Narrated Al-Mughira bin Shu'ba: On the day of Ibrahim's death, the sun eclipsed and the people said that the eclipse was due to the death of Ibrahim (the son of the Prophet). Allah's Apostle said, "The sun and the moon are two signs amongst the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of someone's death or life. So when you see them, invoke Allah and pray till the eclipse is clear."

 

Reasons that Muslims should be humble before Allah during an eclipse

• An eclipse is a sign of the majesty and power of Allah.

Narrated Abu Masud: The Prophet said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of the death of someone from the people but they are two signs amongst the signs of Allah. When you see them, stand up and pray."

• An eclipse can cause people to become frightened. When frightened, Muslims turn to Allah for patience and perseverance.

Narrated Abu Bakr: Allah's Apostle said: "The sun and the moon are two signs amongst the signs of Allah and they do not eclipse because of the death of someone, but Allah frightens His devotees with them."

Understanding the Uniqueness of the Qur'an

 

The study and knowledge of the Qur'an is essential for every learned person
as well as for all faithful believers. It is specially essential for those
scholars who are interested in the study of man and society, since this
book has been effectively instrumental not only in moulding the destinies
of Islamic societies, but also in shaping the destiny of the human race
as a whole. A brief glance over history would be enough to provide sufficient
proof of the claim that there has been no such book that has ever influenced
human societies to the magnitude of the Qur'an. It is for the same reason
that the Qur'an automatically steps into the precincts of sociological
discussions, and becomes the elemental constituent of the subjects of research
in this discipline. This means that any deep study and profound research
in the field of world history of the last fourteen hundred years, is impossible
without the knowledge of the Qur'an. 

The study of the Qur'an is essential for every committed Muslim, since
it is the main source and foundation of the religious thought and faith.
Whatsoever gives meaning, essence and sanctity to his existence lies in
the Holy Qur'an. 

The Qur'an is not just like other religious books which are content
to discuss the problems of existence of God and creation in cryptic tones,
or like those which merely convey a series of simple moral advice and counsels,
so that those who believe in them are hopelessly left to search for guidance
in other sources. Unlike such books the Qur'an formulates the tenets of
faith besides communicating the ideas and views that are essential for
a man of faith and belief. Similarly, it also lays down the principles
of moral and ethical values for the purpose of social and familial existence.
It leaves the job of explanation, interpretation, and occasionally that
of ijtihad and application of principles (usul) to secondary matters
(furu') to be dealt with through ijtihad and sunnah. Accordingly,
utilization of any other source depends on the prior knowledge of the Qur'an.
The Qur'an is the criterion and standard for judging all other sources.
We should judge hadith and sunnah in the light of the Qur'an. We can accept
it only when it is in accordance with the Qur'an, otherwise we do not accept
it. 

There are four more books that come after the Qur'an, and are regarded
as the most sacred and the most authentic sources (by the Shi'ah Muslims).
They are: Al-Kafi, Man la yahduruhu al-faqih, Tahdhib, and Istibsar. There
are also other sources like the Nahj al-Balaghah, and the prayers of al-Sahifah
al-Sajjadiyyah. All these books are secondary to the Qur'an, and their
authenticity of source is not so absolute as that of the Qur'an. A hadith
from al-Kafi is as trustworthy as it may be in conformity with the Qur'an,
and reliable so far as its words comply with the teachings of the Qur'an
and do not go against it. The Prophet (S) and the infallible Imams have
said that their traditions should be checked in the light of the Qur'an;
if they do not coincide with the words of the Qur'an, they should be regarded
as false and fake, and as being wrongfully attributed to them; since they
have not said anything that can go against the Qur'anic teachings.

According to Muslims, God vowed to
preserve the Quran. How come the earlier scriptures weren't persevered, and after all,
they are God's words?

 

Nowhere in the Quran God promises
such protection or preservation to the former scriptures as the case with the Quran. Every
prophet was armed with special miracles to prove the authenticity of his message. Moses
came to people who rely heavily on magic, so God gave him immense power through his Cane.
Jesus came to people who were known of strong medical abilities, so God gave him the
ability to cure people and even to raise the dead. Both prophets Moses & Jesus (pbut)
were sent to specific people (sons of Israel) with the mentioned miracles and the
scriptures. On the other hand, Mohammad (pbuh) was sent to people who were fluent in
Arabic Language and its grammar. God gave him the Quran as his Main and lasting Miracle.
The Quran is very unique in its originality and delivery, and the Arabic Language is the
best to preserve such revelation. Since Mohammad (pbuh) is the final messenger to mankind
and the Quran was his Main miracle, God has promised to protect the Quran forever.
Remember, if the miracle dies, then its authenticity will most definitely die and perish.
Moses and Jesus (pbut) had their miracles but not in their books, but rather in their
actions (the power of the Cane & Healing), and once they're gone, it was easy for
people to edit and interpolate their scriptures (Torah & Bible) to fit their own
selfish desires. So far, and after 1400 years later, the Quran remains untouched and
persevered from corruption. Muslims still believe in Mohammad's original revelation and
divine message. The preservation isn't only limited to the text, but to the divine
message, and to the delivery and originality.

Men and Women: Equal in the Sight of God; Submitters Perspective June 1998

 

Equal in the Sight of God O people, we created you from the same male and female, and rendered you distinct peoples and tribes, that you may recognize one another. The best among you in the sight of God is the most righteous. God is Omniscient, Cognizant (49:13)

Are men and women created equal? The traditional Muslim would answer this question with a “NO” but the Quran teaches otherwise. Let us look at Verse 3:195. It says: Their Lord responded to them: “I never fail to reward any worker among you for any work you do, be you male or female—you are equal to one another. The verse goes on to say Thus, those who immigrate, and get evicted from their homes, and are persecuted because of Me, and fight and get killed, I will surely remit their sins and admit them into gardens with flowing streams.” Such is the reward from God. God possesses the ultimate reward. (3:195)

This verse tells us that men and women are equal. It clearly states that we can all work, fight, die and be persecuted for God, but for the reward of their righteous works, both men and women are in fact equal to each other in the sight of God. On the traditional side, what does Hadith say? Bukhari wrote: “Women are naturally, morally and religiously defective.” He did not say a woman, that woman, or that group of women. He said women. Not only is Bukhari wrong, he contradicts what the Quran says. The problem is that some men and women take the words of men (Sunnah and Hadiths) over God’s word (Holy Quran) and some people have gone as far as to accept both as sources

of guidance. God says in Verse 18:27 that You shall recite what is revealed to you of your Lord’s scripture. Nothing shall abrogate His words, and you shall not find any other source beside it. (18:27) God has told us not to find any source besides His scripture. And a lot of women have suffered because people tend to follow the words of Bukhari, Ibn Hambali, Ibn Majah, Ibn Kathir and other hadith narrators, instead of the Quran. If God wanted us to follow Sunnah and Hadith, He would have made them part of the Quran. They are not in the Quran, they are not part of the Quran, and they don’t help you understand the Quran. WOMEN IN ISLAM

Everyone, the world over, condemned the Taliban’s abominable treatment of women in Afghanistan, but oppression of Muslim women happens everywhere. It’s usually more subtle—sometimes so subtle that even the women don’t know they’re being oppressed— but it’s just as oppressive. Thank God we were blessed to receive the purified message, and we have an easy-to-read-and-understand English translation of the Quran. So, we know that God says that men and women are equal and “oppression is worse than murder.” Since we know the truth and since it’s so distorted in most of the world, how do we get the message across? In this time when more and more people are expressing interest in Islam and the Quran, how do we reach people, especially women, with the truth?

It’s so important for people to realize that Islam as it’s traditionally practiced has virtually nothing to do with Islam as it was revealed. And it’s more than just terrorism that’s false; it’s more than the fundamentalists who have it wrong. Unfortunately the majority of average people in the world, who claim to be Muslims, have serious misconceptions about the True Islam. Because of the distorted view of Islam by so-called religious scholars who make references to man-made sources, the Muslims en masse are essentially unaware or ignorant of the beautiful message in their Holy Book, the Quran. Into this time of heightened awareness, Lisa Spray has written a delightful book addressing the discrepancies between women’s rights as set forth in the Quran and as practiced by Muslims today.

She calls it Heart’s Surprise: A Personal Reconciliation of Women’s Rights and the Quran and Islam. Everyone who reads the Perspective or accesses the Submission web site knows someone who should read and learn from this book. It’s light and clear and very perceptive. I have found that often when the practice of some Muslims does not mesh with my understanding of the Quran, the issue is one of culture….
