Ruling on buying products on which there are images

What is the ruling on buying sweets or products on which there are images of animate beings?.

Praise be to Allaah.

Buying these things, if they are bought because of those
images, is haraam, because that is acquiring images, which prevents the
angels from entering the house.

Undoubtedly it is better for the Muslim to keep away from
everything that may cause the angels not to enter the house.

But if most of these things have images on them, and it is
hard for the Muslim to find products that do not have any images on them,
then there is no sin in that in sha Allaah, so as to ward off hardship from
the Muslims.

It says in al-Mawsoo’ah al-Fiqhiyyah (12/112):

The Maalikis have two views on the production of images which
are not meant to last, such as those that are made of dough. The more well
known view is that it is not allowed. Both views were narrated by al-‘Adawi,
and he said: Those who say that it is permissible are referring to things
made of dough or melon peel, because when it dries out it breaks.

According to the Shaafa’is, it is haraam to make it but it is
not haraam to sell it. End quote.

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in
al-Sharh al-Mumti’ (2/203):

Nowadays the problem is widespread and it is common to find
images on everything, except in rare cases. They are to be found on vessels,
food containers, books, newspapers and everything except what which Allaah
wills. There are also images that can be eaten, such as biscuits in the
shape of fish and rabbits. We say: if a person keeps the images (i.e., he
keeps the things because of the images on them), this is undoubtedly haraam.
If he buys magazines which publish images because of the images, this is
also haraam, but if he buys them for knowledge and to read the news, we hope
that there is nothing wrong with that, because of hardship. Allaah says
(interpretation of the meaning):

“and [Allaah] has not laid upon you in religion any
hardship”

[al-Hajj 22:78]

These images should not be the aim when a person buys
something, and he should not be concerned with them at all. With regard to
vessels and food boxes, etc., it may be said that these pictures are not
being treated with respect, so there is no need to regard them as haraam.

And Allaah knows best.

Important note to learn and read quran online

Online Quran Tutor is the one who comes into mind when someone says to learn Holy Quran online or learning the Quran with the right pronunciation. The Holy Quran is the word of Allah Ta’ala and recitation of the Quran is a sensitive matter. We have to listen quran with full attention and read quran online with the perfection and it is suppose to be read, there are many places in the Quran which have to be recited with care and attention because if someone recites them with the wrong pronunciation, the whole context and meaning of the verse get changed. its the beauty of every Muslim parent to carry on with the teaching of Islam and letting there kids to learn quran

except ruqam (marks or stripes) on clothes

What is meant by ruqam (marks or stripes on clothes) in the hadeeth “except ruqam on textiles”?

Praise be to Allaah.

The scholars (may Allaah have mercy on them) interpreted
ruqam in two ways:

(i)
That it refers to images in carpets and similar items, which
are walked on and are not treated in a respectful manner like pillows.
This is allowed, because the Messenger
(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) allowed it. What is meant
is that he allowed their use, but making images is not allowed.

(ii)
That it refers to decorations on garments, apart from pictures
or images. Decoration on clothing is fine and does not come under the
ruling on images. What is forbidden is images of animate beings, human
or otherwise, because it was reported that the Prophet
(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) entered upon ‘Aa’ishah and
saw a garment on which there was an image. He got angry and tore it
down, and said, “The makers of these images will be punished on the
Day of Resurrection, and they will be told, ‘Give life to that which
you have created.’ ‘Aa’ishah said: So I made it into two pillows on
which the Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him) could recline.  Al-Nasaa’i narrated with
a saheeh isnaad from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that
the Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him) had an appointment with Jibreel, and he was late,
so he went out to him and found him waiting for him (outside). Jibreel
said to him: “In the house there is a statue, and a curtain with images
on it, and a dog. Go and break the head off the statue so that it will
look like a tree, and go and make two pillows out of the curtain that
will be thrown on the floor and stepped on, and go and throw the dog
out.” The Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him) went and did that, then Jibreel (peace be upon
him) came in. Abu Hurayrah said: the dog was a puppy underneath a bed
in the house, which has been brought in by al-Hasan and al-Husayn.

His father wants him to help him in his business which involves some things that go against sharee’ah

I work in the field of audio and video via computer and satellite (all of it is Islamic and da’wah work, by the grace of Allaah). I have good experience, praise be to Allaah. My father wants me to work with him in our business, but I have a few problems, the first of which is that I am not good at business.

The second problem is that this business involves some things that are not Islamic, such as notebooks on which are pictures of animate beings, and music books, and cards with pictures of animate beings, and playing cards and shavers. (I live in a country where most men do not have beards).

Praise be to Allaah.

Undoubtedly honouring one's parents is one of the greatest
acts of worship by means of which a person may draw closer to his Lord.
Allaah has enjoined good treatment of them in all circumstances, even if
they disbelieve in Allaah. We have already discussed this in questions no.
22782,
5326 and
5053.

With regard to what you have mentioned, try to convince your
father to let you do work that you are good at, through which you can
produce something good for others, for every one has an affinity with that
for which he was created. Part of doing things well and fulfilling the trust
is for each person to be placed in a job for which he is suited. Part of
failing to work well, wasting money and neglecting the trust is to assign
work to those who are not qualified to do it. Then try to help him to find a
good and trustworthy alternative, who can help him with his business instead
of you, even if you have to pay part of his wages. Do that to please your
father. If the situation requires you to spend part of your free time with
your father, then do that.

“and do good. Truly, Allaah loves Al-Muhsinoon
(the good-doers)”

[al-Baqarah 2:195]

“and be dutiful and good to parents”

[al-Baqarah 2:83]

If you try hard to do
that, but you do not manage to convince your father,  then my advice to you
is that you should take a leave of absence from your current job, if
possible, and join your father in his work for this period. Perhaps things
will go as you wish during this time. If you cannot take this leave of
absence, then you do not have to give up your job or pay any of your wealth
or divorce your wife in order to please your parents, if that will cause
harm to you. Your not obeying them in this case is not regarded as ‘uqooq
(the defiant disobedience of parents that is forbidden in Islam), in sha
Allah. See question no. 9594 and
47040.

A man said to Imam Ahmad: I have a slave woman and my mother
is asking me to sell her.

He said: Are you afraid
that your heart will follow her? (i.e., are you afraid that your heart will
remain attached to the slave woman if you sell her?). He said: Yes. He said:
Do not sell her. He said: But she (my mother) is saying that she will not be
pleased with me unless I sell her. He said: If you fear that (selling the
slave woman) will affect you, then she (your mother) has no right to make
such demands.

Al-Adaab al-Shar’iyyah by Ibn
Muflih, 1/448.

But you must also strive to soften your father’s heart and be
gentle in your dealing with him. Also try to purify your business from
selling things that it is forbidden to sell or that you think are most
likely to be used in haraam ways. Do not sell these things even if you
father tells you to do so, because there is no obedience to any created
being if it involves disobedience towards the Creator.

What you have mentioned about notebooks with pictures on
them, this is a problem that is widespread. If these pictures are taken from
photographs and are not drawn by hand, then there is no sin in selling these
notebooks with these pictures, in sha Allaah, because what is being bought
is not the picture in and of itself, but rather the notebook. But if it is a
picture of a woman or some indecent image, of which there are many such,
then it is not permissible to sell it because that is spreading fitnah and
corruption, and because many people look for such pictures.

With regard to selling music books, this is haraam, because
it is helping in evil. The same applies to selling shavers to one whom one
thinks will most likely use it to shave his beard. But if he is going to use
it for some permissible purpose, then it is permissible to sell it.

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was
asked:

My father has a store in which he sells electrical appliances
such as TVs, VCRs and some musical instruments, as well as gold watches. He
asked me to sit in the shop and sell things, but I refused. Is this
considered to be defiant disobedience to my father? What should I do?

He replied:

This is not defiant disobedience, if you refused to do the
haraam action that your father does. But what you have to do is to advise
him and tell him that this is haraam and his earnings are haraam. If he
follows right guidance, then this is what you want. But if he does not
follow right guidance, then the sin is on him and you will have the reward
for advising him, because Allaah said to His Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) (interpretation of the meaning):

“Not upon you
(Muhammad) is their guidance”

[al-Baqarah 2:272]

If he tells you: Sit in
the store and sell things, do not sell anything that will be used for haraam
purposes, but sell the things that people usually use for permissible
purposes. So do not sell things such as radios, cassette recorders, VCRs and
TVs, because most of those who buy these things are going to use them for
haraam purposes.

Al-Baab
al-Maftooh,

Instilling the love of the Prophet in the heart of a child

How can we develop love of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in the hearts of our children? I have a young daughter – what can I do with her to achieve this?

Praise
be to Allaah.

There are a number of ways to instill
love of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in the
hearts of our children, such as:

·
The parents can tell them the
stories that have been narrated of the children of the Sahaabah at the time
of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), how they
fought those who tried to harm him, how quickly they responded to his call
and obeyed his commands, and how they loved that which he loved, and how
they memorized the hadeeth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon him).

·
The parents should help her to
memorize as much hadeeth as she can of ahaadeeth, and reward her for that…
One of the things that was narrated concerning that was the words of
al-Zubayri: Maalik ibn Anas had a daughter who memorized his knowledge –
i.e. al-Muwatta’. She used to stand behind the door and if a student
made a mistake she would knock on the door, and Maalik would be alerted and
would correct him. And it was narrated that al-Nadar ibn al-Haarith said: “I
heard Ibraaheem ibn Adham say: ‘My father said to me, O my son, seek
hadeeth, and every time you hear a hadeeth and memorize it, I will give you
a dirham, so I learnt hadeeth in that way.”

·
They should teach her –
according to her level of understanding – about the life of the Prophet
(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and his military campaigns, and
the lives of the Sahaabah, both men and women – may Allaah be pleased with
them, so that she will grow up loving these noble people, and be influenced
by their behaviour, and will be keen to strive and sincere in correcting
herself and supporting her religion.

·
The Sahaabah and the salaf
(early generations) were keen to teach their children about the life of the
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and they would
teach it alongside teaching the Qur’aan, because his seerah is the
interpretation of the the meanings of the Qur’aan, as well as stirring up
emotions and demonstrating true Islam and having a wondrous effect on the
soul. It also carries the meanings of love and jihad to save mankind from
misguidance and bring them to guidance, from falsehood to truth, from the
darkness of jaahiliyyah to the light of Islam.

When telling their daughter about the life of
the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and the lives
of the male and female Sahaabah (may Allaah be pleased with them), the
father and mother must tell her about things that she can relate to, such as
the childhood of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon
him), some stories about his life with (his wet-nurse) Haleemah
al-Sa’diyyah, and how Allaah bestowed goodness and blessings upon Haleemah
and her family because of him (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon
him), the night of the Hijrah and how Allaah covered the eyes of the
mushrikeen, and other stories which demonstrate how Allaah helped him. Thus
the girl’s heart will be filled with love for Allaah and love for His
Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). It was narrated
from ‘Ali (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Train your children to acquire three
characteristics: love of your Prophet, love of his family and reading the
Qur’aan, for the bearers of the Qur’aan will be in the shade of Allaah on
the Day when there will be no shade except His, with His Prophets and His
chosen ones.” (Narrated by al-Suyooti in al-Jaami’ al-Sagheer, p. 25;
classed as da’eef by al-Albaani in Da’eef al-Jaami’ al-Sagheer,
p. 36, no. 251). It would be a good idea if the parents  devote a suitable
time for teaching the life of the Prophet (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon him) during the daily family lesson, when the children can
read about seerah in simplified books, or the father or mother can tell them
these stories in a manner that is appropriate to the child’s age.

The things Muslim should do. We as Muslim should give our first priority in learning quran and do quran reading to seek the right path of Islam and through the quran teaching we can achieve the goal of our life and the deputy to guiding our kids to learn Koran that we should fulfill with perfecting kids quran recitation power and knowledge in Islam and also motivate our children’s to do quran memorization and then guide them to learn holy Quran tafseer  so they could understand the quran in Arabic and the quranic translation and also let or kids to listen quran from top quran reciters to get them inspired. at last I would pray for all my Muslim brothers and sisters that may Allah accept there Dwas and prayers and inspire you with the teachings of our holy prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) so let us join hands and spread the knowledge that every Muslim is born to spread the knowledge of Islam now a day many online quran tutor are available for kids and elders to learn tajweed quran and with exact pronunciation and perfect the quran recitation online with qualified teaching staff  who can guide then with there experience and knowledge and the write teachings to help us in achieving the path of Jannah so learn quran and its teaching and spread the word of Allah

Which is better, the thawb or the izaar and rida’ (lower and upper garment)?

Is a thoub , izar and shelwar qamees example of Islaamic clothing and the sunnah of Prophet Muhammd(SAW),or does it just from the culture of Arab countries and Pakistan ? Also,is it preferable to wear this type of clothing instead of Western clothing ,if one is able to do so,while living in Western countries?.

Praise be to Allaah.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon him) wore the thawb (qamees), the rida’ and izaar (upper and lower garment) and sirwaal (pants). With regard to the Pakistani dress (shalwar khameez), it is not narrated – as far as we know – that the Prophet
(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) wore this type of dress.

Undoubtedly adhering to this Arabic dress
comes under the heading of preserving the ummah’s customs and unique characteristics, and protecting it from imitation of others and assimilation.
This is undoubtedly better than western dress.

However, clothing is considered to come under
the heading of traditions, and each country has its own traditions and customs, and there is nothing wrong with a Muslim following the traditions
of the country he lives in with regard to dress, on condition that it does not include anything haraam in the material of which it is made or the
way in which it is designed. So it is not permissible to wear silk, or tight clothing, or see-through fabrics that show the ‘awrah, or clothing
that belongs uniquely to the kuffaar or that is made of silk.

Neither is it permissible to wear “garments
of fame and vanity” – which means things that a person becomes famous for wearing – because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be
upon him) said: “Whoever wears a garment of fame and vanity, Allaah will clothe him in a similar garment on the Day of Resurrection.” A report
from Abu ‘Awaanah adds: “Then it will burst into flames.” Narrated by Abu Dawood, 4029; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood,
3399.

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon him) said: ‘Whoever wears a garment of fame and vanity, on the Day of Resurrection Allaah will clothe him in a garment of
humiliation.’” Narrated by Ibn Maajah, 3606’ classed as hasan by al-Albaani, 2905.

Now days we as Muslims have to spread the voice to learn quran and so we could gain the true knowledge and the quran teaching that is give to us by our beloved prophet Muhammad peace be upon him and do quran reading. Do we as Muslim ask our self that why we are at the peak of destruction? The answer will be simple that we have left our roots the holy quran we should guide promote Islam from in our homes first and let learn our kids quran  and encourage them in doing quran memorization this should be our first goal for it we can do different stuff like let then participate in different online quran recitation competition to let them listen quran from different online quran reciters and along with it we elders should learn quran also and improve our knowledge of quran and Islam and learn holy quran tafseer because to understand and learn quran Arabic and for this now a days there are many online quran tutor available who teach tajweed quran and its translation and tafseer so let us join our hands to be the voice of Islam and let improve the image of it as well and full fill our duty .

Attending the graduation ceremony at an American university

I would like to know the Islamic Rulling of attending the Graduation Ceremony at an American University. I am a doctoral student at an American University and I am planning to graduate in the end of this term Spring 2001. I know it is optional to attend this event, however it is very important for doctoral students and their advisors to attend. At these ceremonies, the students must were what so called CAP and GOWN, and I do not know what the historical background of these types of clothing.

Praise be to Allaah.

If attendance is optional, do not attend, so
as to be free from imitation of the kaafirs in wearing this dress which is unique to them, and also to avoid the evils that are usually present in
such celebrations.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” Narrated by Abu Dawood, 4031, from the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be
pleased with him), and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

Ruling on woman wearing black during her monthly period

I heard that it is not permissible for a woman to wear black during her period, because the Ka‘bah is black, and this signals a lack of respect for it. Is this true? Even my husband said to me recently that it is also not permissible to wear black underwear, out of respect for the colour of the Ka‘bah. What is your opinion on this?.

Praise be to Allaah.

There is nothing wrong with a woman wearing black during
her monthly period. This is for two reasons:

1.

The basic principle is that things are permissible and there
is nothing in sharee‘ah to say that a woman cannot wear any particular
colour during her period, whether that is black or any other colour. So it
is essential to adhere to the basic principle.

2.

The fact that the Ka‘bah is covered with black is not a
matter that enjoined, because there is nothing in the Sunnah to that effect.
Rather it is the custom of people at present. If the Holy Ka‘bah were to be
covered in some other appropriate colour, there would be nothing wrong with
that. Black is not a special colour for the Holy Ka‘bah such that it would
form the basis for a ruling that it is not permissible for a menstruating
woman to wear black.

Rather, if we were to assume that the colour of the covering
of the Ka‘bah is something enjoined, that would not in itself indicate that
it is forbidden for a menstruating woman to wear black or that it is
disliked for her to do so.

One should beware of things that are said or spread in
rumours stating that something is haraam or halaal, when there is no basis
for it in sharee‘ah. Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the
meaning):

“Say (O Muhammad to these
polytheists): ‘Tell me, what provision Allaah has sent down to you! And you
have made of it lawful and unlawful.’ Say (O Muhammad): ‘Has Allaah
permitted you (to do so), or do you invent a lie against Allaah?’

60. And what think those who invent a lie against Allaah,
on the Day of Resurrection? [i.e. Do they think that they will be forgiven
and excused! Nay, they will have an eternal punishment in the fire of Hell.]
Truly, Allaah is full of bounty to mankind, but most of them are ungrateful”

[Yoonus 10:59-60].

Al-Haafiz Ibn Katheer (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

Allah denounces the one who forbids what Allah has permitted,
or permits what Allah has forbidden on the basis of mere opinions or whims
and desires, for which there is no evidence. Then He warns them against that
on the Day of Resurrection and says (interpretation of the meaning): “And
what think those who invent a lie against Allaah, on the Day of
Resurrection?” i.e., what do they think will happen to them on the Day
they return to Us, the Day of Resurrection?!

Ruling on wearing a robe in the graduation ceremony

Many faculties, schools, and institutions obligate its graduates to wear a special uniform. Many brothers mentioned that this robe is the uniform of priests and monks in churches when they baptise. How true is this?.

Praise be to Allaah.

It is haraam for a Muslim is to imitate the disbelievers in
their clothing which is uniquely theirs, whether the disbelievers are Jews,
Christians, or anyone else, because of the general meaning of the evidence
in the Qur’aan and Sunnah which prohibits imitation of them. That includes
the hadeeth of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) in
which he said: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” (Narrated by Imam
Ahmad, Abu Dawood and others). And the Prophet (blessings and peace of
Allaah be upon him) said, when he saw ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Amr wearing two
garments that had been dyed with safflower: “These are the garments of the
disbelievers, so do not wear them.” Narrated by Muslim in his Saheeh.
And it is proven in Saheeh Muslim that ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased
with him) wrote a letter to his worker in Azerbaijan, ‘Utbah ibn Farqad (may
Allaah be pleased with him) saying: Beware of luxury and the clothing of the
people of shirk and silk garments.

Based on that, it is not permissible to wear the so-called
robe when graduating from a school, institute or college, because it is one
of the garments of the Christians. The Muslim should be proud of his
religion and of his following his Prophet Muhammad (blessings and peace of
Allaah be upon him), and he should not pay attention to the customs of those
with whom Allaah is angry and who have gone astray, such as the Jews,
Christians and others.

And Allaah is a source of strength will stop may Allaah send
blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and
companions.

Accepting diyah (blood money) instead of qisaas (retaliation) in the case of deliberate killing

Can diyah be accepted in the case of deliberate killing? Can the killer be set free?.

Praise be to Allaah.

Allaah, may He be exalted,
says (interpretation of the meaning):

“O you who believe!
Al-Qisaas (the Law of Equality in punishment) is prescribed for you in case
of murder: the free for the free, the slave for the slave, and the female
for the female. But if the killer is forgiven by the brother (or the
relatives) of the killed against blood money, then adhering to it with
fairness and payment of the blood money to the heir should be made in
fairness. This is an alleviation and a mercy from your Lord. So after this
whoever transgresses the limits (i.e. kills the killer after taking the
blood money), he shall have a painful torment”

[al-Baqarah 2:178].

The great scholar ‘Abd
al-Rahmaan al-Sa’di said in his Tafseer: Allaah reminds His believing
slaves that He has enjoined qisaas upon them in the case of murder, i.e.,
there should be equal recompense in that, and that the killer should be
killed in the way in which he killed his victim, so as to establish justice
and fairness among people. End quote.

Qisaas by killing the
killer can only be in cases of deliberate killing, according to scholarly
consensus. Ibn Qudaamah said in al-Mughni (8/214): The scholars are
unanimously agreed that qisaas is not required except in the case of
deliberate killing, and we do not know of any difference of opinion with
regard to qisaas being required for deliberate killing if all conditions are
met. This is indicated by the general meaning of the verses and reports.
Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And whoever is killed
wrongfully (Mazlooman intentionally with hostility and oppression and not by
mistake), We have given his heir the authority [to demand Qisaas, __Law of
Equality in punishment __or to forgive, or to take Diyah (blood money)]. But
let him not exceed limits in the matter of taking life (i.e. he should not
kill except the killer)” [al-Isra’ 17:33]

“Al-Qisaas (the Law of
Equality in punishment) is prescribed for you in case of murder”

[al-Baqarah 2:178]

“And there is (a saving
of) life for you in Al-Qisaas”

[al-Baqarah 2:179]

What is meant – and Allaah
knows best – is that the requirement of qisaas deters the one who wants to
kill from doing do, out of compassion towards himself so that he will not
killed, and so that the one whom he wanted to kill will remain alive. And it
was said that the killer would generate enmity between himself and the tribe
of the one whom he killed, so he wants to kill them for fear of them and
they want to kill him and his tribe in revenge. If he is executed as a
punishment according to sharee’ah, that will prevent the reason for fighting
between the two tribes. And Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And We ordained therein
for them: Life for life, eye for eye”

[al-Maa’idah 5:45].

The Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “If a person’s relative is killed, he
has the choice of two options: either (the killer) may be killed or the
fidyah (ransom, blood money) may be paid.” Agreed upon. Abu Shurayh
al-Khuzaa’i said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever is killed or is wounded, has the choice
of three things, and if he wants the fourth then restrain him. He may kill
(the killer), or forgive him, or take the diyah (blood money). Narrated by
Abu Dawood. According to another version: “Whoever has a relative killed
after what I have said, his family has two options: to accept the diyah or
kill (the killer).” And he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
said: “There is qisaas for deliberate killing, unless the heir of the slain
lets him off.” End quote.

There was no difference of
opinion among the scholars that it is valid for the heirs of the victim to
forego qisaas and accept the diyah. This is what is indicated by the
ahaadeeth quoted above.

In that case, the killer
may be set free and he should be obliged to pay the diyah.

And Allaah knows best.

Crucifixion of Christ and Quran

Is Quran the Word of God? Part 3

Crucifixion of Christ and Quran

From the last two weeks we were looking on the topic
whether Quran is Word of God or not. We meditated on the verse where Paul
and Peter says that Bible was inspired by God or given by the Spirit of
God or Holy Spirit. We also looked that Holy Spirit cannot give unholy
command and we studied the example of David's marriage to Bathsheba and
Mohammed's marriage to Zainab. Both David and Mohammed married almost
in the same way yet David received severe punishment and consequences
of his sin but Mohammed's sinful marriage was appreciated by Allah. David's
several pleading and repentance to the Lord could only exempt him from
being punished and still he had to face the consequence. But the opposite
was of Mohammed's case.

Today we are going to see what Quran says about the crucifixion
of Christ.

Quran says in Surah 4:157-158,
That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary,
the Messenger of Allah., but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but
so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full
of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow,
for of a surety they killed him not. Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself;
and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise."

Now if Allah's words are correct and Jesus was really not
crucified then of course the whole Bible is a fake book or man-made doctrine
and not given by God himself. The above statement of Allah nullifies the
whole Bible and the messages spoken by all the prophets including Jesus
who claimed His sufferings, death and resurrection.

Someone has explained that Jesus is mentioned in every book
of Bible. Here are a few of that explanation:

In the book of Genesis, Jesus is The Seed of the Woman

We read in Gen 3:15 about
the curse which came on the serpent, "And I will put enmity Between
you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise
your head, And you shall bruise His heel."

Genesis chapter 3 tells us the distortion of the creation
whom God created. When Adam and Eve sinned against God, God promised to
give a solution for this problem. The above verse says that the seed of
the woman will crush the head of the evil one. Jesus came by virgin Mary
and suffered and died on the cruel cross for the redemption of our souls.
By doing this He crushed the head of devil. By doing this Jesus gave a
great defeat to devil by overcoming death. But Allah says in Quran that
it never happened.

In the book of Exodus, Jesus is The Passover Lamb

God who spoke through Moses gave the Law of Passover. God
commanded Moses to bring a sacrificial lamb and to eat it. God redeemed
Israel by the blood of the lamb which was applied on the door posts. The
same God not only redeemed Israel from the mighty hands of his enemy but
also brought them to the promised land. The same God who sent His Son
to die for us is a liar according to the Quran and according to Allah.
Because Quran says that Jesus never died on the cross.

In the book of Leviticus, Jesus is The High Priest

What was the duty of High Priest? Bible tells us that
once a year High priest entered in the holies of holy with the blood of
lamb or goat and pleaded for the sins of the people. Jesus did the same
thing on the cruel cross by shedding His own blood on the cross. Bible
says in
Heb 2:17-18, "Therefore, in
all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful
and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation
for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself has suffered, being
tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted."

Bible also says in Lev
17:11, "For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given
it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the
blood that makes atonement for the soul."

But according to the Quran it never happened.

In the book of Zechariah, Jesus is The Pierced Son

God said in Zec 12:10
"And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of
Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on
Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his
only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.

The above verse is very clear that God Himself came to die
for us and gave His life for us. He was pierced for our salvation. The
wounds which we had to be in our body, He took Himself. But Quran denies
all these things.

Jesus the Messiah

In the New Testament we read about Jesus' birth, sufferings,
death and resurrection. Jesus Himself told the purpose of His coming in
this world. Jesus spoke about His sufferings in
Mat
17:12 "But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did
not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of
Man is also about to suffer at their hands."

Jesus spoke about His suffering, death and resurrection
in
Luke 24:46, "Then He said to them,
"Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to
suffer and to rise from the dead the third day."

Jesus declared His death in
John 2:19-22, "Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this
temple, and in three days I will raise it up." Then the Jews said,
"It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You
raise it up in three days?" But He was speaking of the temple of
His body. Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered
that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the
word which Jesus had said."

So if Jesus did not die on the cross then all Old Testament
and New Testament books are having no meaning and those millions of people
who believed in the Son of God generation after generation are doomed
in their own sin without having any hope for the future.

But not only the Bible tells us that these events happened
as spoken by Jesus but History is witness of these events. The Writings
of Flavius Josephus the Historian and other documents prove that Jesus'
crucifixion and resurrection took place and Bible account is accurate.

So it is not possible that Quran was really given by the
Spirit of God or Holy Spirit? God cannot contradict Himself nor His word.
God cannot speak lies. All these things prove that Allah is not the all
knowing god and it was a deliberate attempt to shake the whole foundation
of Bible, that is, salvation of mankind, forgiveness of sin, redemption
of soul through shed blood of Christ and Eternal life.

Today you can choose either to live in sin and die in your
sins without having hope for eternal life or get forgiveness of your sins
and enter into eternal life. Choice is yours.

Now days we as Muslims have to spread the voice to learn quran and so we could gain the true knowledge and the quran teaching that is give to us by our beloved prophet Muhammad peace be upon him and do quran reading. Do we as Muslim ask our self that why we are at the peak of destruction? Quran-IslamTrue Islam

Why were the children of Israel "favoured" among other people - 2:122

Much has been debated about the fact that it is written in the Quran that the children of Israel, and hence all Jews, have been favoured by God above all other people.

When we read the above verse, and particularly the words “My blessings which I bestowed upon you” it becomes clear that the status of being favoured/choen”

does not stem from the personal attributes of the children of Israel, but is only a matter derived from the blessings bestowed upon them by God. In other words they were favored in terms of the blessings given to them by God.

This blessing was two fold:

- First: In the form of being the first people to receive a fully comprehensive and fully detailed Law from God. The Quran speaks of the “suhuf” of Abraham, but this word, which literally means “pages” indicates that Abraham was given a form of scripture, but it was not a fully detailed and comprehensive scripture as the one Moses received (Torah), or the one Muhammad received (Quran).

- Second: The blessing from God was also in the fact that God showed the children of Israel much more signs and miracles than any other people. This indeed is a blessing since the signs from God are the best aid to strengthen people’s belief in God.

So in what respect where the children of Israel chosen among other people?

Well, the rule is that when a lot is given, a lot is expected:

"For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required." Luke 12:48

The reply is that they were chosen for the task of upholding and delivering the Law and the Revelation of God to mankind. The duty assigned to them is what makes them chosen and not the fact that they were in any way superior as a race among all others.

The relationship between the terms “favoured/chosen”

and between being appointed for a specific task is one that is spoken of in the Quran with regards to others.

As an example, we read how God told Mary that He “chose” her from all other women (3:42). God purified Mary and assigned her the task of being the bearer of Jesus Christ. Alongside Jesus, they were both signs to mankind. People speak of the miracles of Jesus and particularly being born of no father, but they forget that this is equally a miracle of Mary for delivering a child when an untouched virgin. This task assigned to Mary made her chosen and favoured by God. This once again confirms that it is the blessing bestowed on Mary by God which made her chosen.

12- How can associating partners with God (shirk) be like falling from the sky? - 22:31

"You shall maintain your devotion absolutely to God alone. Anyone who sets up any idol beside God is like one who fell from the sky, then gets snatched up by vultures, or blown away by the wind into a deep ravine." 22:31

It is clear that God is giving us an allegory in the above words, for in reality no idol worshippers will jump out of a plane (without a parachute) nor will be literally snatched by vultures. God could have simply said that idol worshippers will be at a great loss, but with the above glorious words, we get much more precise information than if 22:31 was worded in simple words:

A- The person who is falling from the sky is in what is known as 'free fall', and the greatest natural fall we know is that of free fall, the full force of gravity is in control. So to start, this allegory gives us the knowledge that whoever commits idol worship is in the greatest fall (loss).

B- Since free fall is a state where there is no resitence to gravity, it produces weightlessness or 'zero-G'. The state of weightlessness is allegorical to someone with virtually no resistence or immunity to any danger, a totally vulnerable state.

C- The words in 22:31 which say "gets snatched up by vultures" indicate that anyone who has the tendency to commit idol worship will be easy prey to the devils and their idolatrous instigations. Such people who love to idolise humans besides God are always easy prey for the devils.

D- When we are on the ground our weight is supported by the earth below us, but a person in 'free fall' has no support whatesoever for his plunging body, and is heading towards assured death. This is also the case of an idol worshipper who has no support whatsoever from God (since idol worship is the only unforgivable sin 4:48) and is thus heading for assured damnation. In contrast, God always supports the genuine believers to lead them out of the darkness into the light.

In 33:41 God speaks to the believers, and in verse 43 God says:

"He is the One who helps you, together with His angels, to lead you out of darkness into the light. He is Most Merciful towards the believers."

-----------------------------------------------------------------

13- Allegorical hints into the Glory of God - 24:35

"God is the light of the heavens and the earth. The allegory of His light is that of a concave mirror within a lamp that is placed inside a glass. The glass is like a radiant planet, which is lit from a blessed olive-producing tree that is neither eastern, nor western. It’s oil is virtually self-radiating though no fire touches it. Light upon light. God guides to His light whoever wills (to be guided) and God cites the parables for the people. God is fully aware of all things." 24:35

This beautiful Quranic verse is one which gives us a glimpse into the Glory of God, this is not easy to do since the Power and Might of God is far beyond any human’s understanding.

"They do not grasp God’s true Might. God is the Most Powerful, the Almighty." 22:74

And for that reason, we see the word “allegory” in this verse to confirm that this is only an example and should not be taken literally.

This is not any different from trying to explain to someone the taste of chocolate if that person has never tasted chocolate in his life. We can say it tastes like this or like that, but we can never explain the real taste.

To give us some kind of understanding of God's Light and God's Might, God includes a number of words of great significance:

- The verse speaks of a radiant planet and the light it reflects from a star (oil producing tree). The words “oil producing” refer to the energy given off by the star. The enormous amount of energy given off by a star is allegorical to the infinite blessings from God which are multiplied for whom He pleases.

- God uses the most powerful energy known in the universe (atomic energy) to make an allegory which we can comprehend to His Might. The nuclear reactions which take place inside stars are not the same as the reactions which are given off as a result of wood burning (combustion). The words ”no fire touched it” confirms this meaning. The allegory in this is the fact that God’s power and might cannot be seen or comprehended by the human being.

- The words “self-radiating” tell us that God’s power is independent of all things.

- The word "blessed" tell us that all blessings come from God alone.

- The words “light upon light” tell us that the power of God is infinite.

- The word “neither eastern, nor western” tell us that God is everywhere and not confined to a one place or one direction.

14- How can God be called "The Believer"? 59:23

“He is God; there is no other god besides Him. The King, the Most Sacred, the Peace, the Mu’min (Believer), the Supreme, the Almighty, the Most Powerful, the Most Dignified. God be glorified; far above having partners.” 59:23

The above verse provides several names for God. One of those is the “Mu’min” which literally means “The Believer”.

For us humans, we cannot see God nor the angels, so we are required to have belief in the existence of God, the angels and various other unseen matters. But for God, how can that issue be applicable?

Accordingly, how can God have such a name (The Believer)? Believer in what when He created everything?

The reply to this question can be given through the following:

1- The definition of belief (Iman) is to have certainty in the existence of God, angels, last day and so on.

2- Among humans, there are believers and also disbelievers. When we focus on the believers we find that the best believers will still have a minute element of doubt in their hearts due to the fact that it is not possible to see God nor the angels etc.

We have the example of Abraham when he asked God to show him a sign, then God asked Abraham: “Do you not believe?" and Abraham replied: "Yes, but I wish to reassure my heart." 2:260

We also have the example of Moses when he asked to see God for the same reason and God told him:

"You cannot see Me. Look at that mountain; if it stays in its place, then you can see Me." Then, his Lord manifested Himself to the mountain, and this caused it to crumble. Moses fell unconscious. When he came to, he said, "Be You glorified. I repent to You, and I am the most convinced believer." 7:143

3- When we consider that Abraham and Moses are very sincere prophets of God, yet they still had a tiny element of doubt simply because they are human and because they could not see God with their eyes, then we realise that a small element of doubt will be within the best of believers.

4- And due to this element of doubt, we can say that no human can be called a perfect believer in an absolute sense.

5- God does not have any doubt whatsoever in anything since God is Lord and Creator of all things. As far as God is concerned all matters are absolute certainty, and for that we can say that God is the Only One who can be called the true and perfect “Believer”.
